TasRec
TasRec offers a variety of weekly and term-based programs focused on physical, mental, and social wellbeing, including exercise, cooking, social groups, creative arts, walking, yoga, and hanging with horses.
Week one is our taster week. This is an opportunity to come along to all sessions and try them out. This is followed by a 10 week term where participants book into 10 sessions for the activities they want to attend.
Eligibility Criteria:
This program is available to adults who:
- Are experiencing mental health challenges;
- Wish to engage in recreational and/or skill building activities; and
- Have completed the ‘TasRec Referral Form’ (linked below).
Programs overview
Just Move – North West, North, South
Movement is key to mental and physical health. Join in this ability sensitive, circuit based exercise program with professional instructors guiding your increase in ability.
Cooking – North West, North, South
Tantalise your taste buds affordably. Includes basic cooking skills, planning meals, shopping, snacks and participant led dishes.
Social Group – North West, North, South
A chance to play board games, pool, play music and have a coffee and a catch up.
Creative Arts – North
Explore your creativity in more sculptural ways. Includes mosaics, ceramics and papier-maché.
Arts & Craft – North
Learn practical and creative skills you can decorate your home or yourself with. Includes sewing, beading, jewellery making, ceramics.
Open Arts – North, South
Find new ways to express yourself, discover different ways to create or further develop your current creative skills. Includes painting, drawing, pottery.
TasTracks – South
Walks in and around Hobart with transport from Hobart or meeting at the walk location. A list of location starting points will be provided once participants have booked in.
Yoga – South
Classes with instructor Helen Cushing who specialises in trauma informed Yoga and working with participants with PTSD.
Hanging with Horses – South
Hanging with horses therapy helps the horses as much as the humans. The program helps to improve the lives of people and horses who are trying to overcome the effects of problems in life such as trauma, learning and behavioural disabilities, or any other mental health challenge.
